However our kids had so much fun with the festivities afterwards (face painting, hair painting, inflatables, twister, and Tug-o-war) that we were just about the last people to leave at the end of the day.
This was also our most successful fundraising year - Hank brought in $2170.57. The 57 cents are from the $11.57 in pennies and spare change collected by Corrina's class. Not only did Hank meet his goal, he DOUBLED it!
We are so grateful to our family and friends for supporting Hank. THANK YOU ALL!
You can see Hank's fundraising efforts by clicking on Hank's 2007 link in the left column of this page. NOTE: Online donations were immediately listed. All checks that were sent to us were turned in on the day of the walk, and will be posted by JDRF under "Other donations" at the bottom of the fundraising page. It will take a few weeks for them to get those updated on the website, and they will be listed as one lump sum - the checks are not listed individually.
Hank seems to understand that the "cure" isn't coming immediately but hasn't quite figured out how the money will help the scientists find the cure. Who knows when a real cure will get here, but they are very close to an insulin pump that will automatically monitor glucose levels and self-correct.
Update on Hank's other medical issues. After 6 weeks of thyroid medication, his thyroid levels are stil very high, so we're trying a higher dose, and having him take the medicine 3 times a day instead of once a day. We'll re-check the thyroid levels in another month or two. Until his thyroid levels are straightened out, we can't get the biopsy to find out about the celiac (high thyroid makes the anesthesia more risky).
Enjoy these pictures from walk day!
