HANK'S FIRST COMMUNION

Hank had his First Holy Communion. The Catholic Church requires that hosts be made of wheat, but luckily there is a group of nuns who make special low-gluten hosts that are approved by the Vatican. Since Hank has celiac we had to work out a procedure for him to receive the low-gluten host and avoid contamination by the wheat hosts. The church bought Hank his own hosts and a pyx (small container for hosts that you can see in the picture with Gramma and Grampa). We put a low-gluten host in it and put it on the altar before mass. When Fr. Joe serves Hank communion, he holds the pyx open for Hank - Fr. Joe can't handle it with his hands because he's been touching wheat.

Hank did fantastic at First Communion - you can see from the photos how serious he is. Afterwards we had a small lunch with Gramma and Grampa and some friends.
