A week later, my grandmother Liz fell in the middle of the night and broke her hip. She just had her hip surgery and is recovering.
Two days ago Hank tripped in front of the school and hit his forehead on concrete pillars in front of the church. He was bleeding all over the sidewalk and it was clear he needed stitches. One hysterical mother had already called 911, but I took him to CHildren's E.R. myself and he ended up with 8 stitches - 3 internal and 5 on the outside. He was such a big boy. They numbed it with a topical anesthetic, and then he didn't even know when they were injecting lidocaine. He could see them working ont he stitches, but he didn't move a muscle, just took a few deep breaths - you could tell he was trying to be brave.
Here's a picture of the stitches (looks so much better than when it was open!)He refused to go to school the next morning, so I let him stay home; he seemed to feel self-conscious. So now he wears this headband so nobody can see the stitches.
