MEMPHIS 2010

We went to Memphis for two weeks to visit with all the relatives. We had a lot of fun, including trips to Uncle Bit's, the Memphis Zoo, Mud Island, Graceland (the day after Justin Bieber visited Graceland - poor Rene was APALLED that she was that close to crossing paths with her least favorite singer!), the IMAX theater to watch films about whales and about Lewis and Clark. It was too unbearably hot to do much outside, as Memphis in August is sweltering - around 100 every day. That's the kind of heat that slaps you in the face when you walk outside.

Here we are waiting for the bus to the airport. It's right across from the Cathedral of Learning where Tony works, so he stopped over to say goodbye. We made it to the airport in good time. I didn't set off the metal detector, but the TSA employee spotted my insulin pump and decided to do a thorough check - manual patting down as well as swabbing me for explosives! Hank was wearing the same pump, but as his was not visible, he didn't get the gold treatment!

Mud Island Riverwalk and Museum - walking through a replica of the Mississippi River and all its tributaries. This was a BLAZING HOT DAY and it sure felt good to get out of the hot water in the riverwalk and into the museum!

Rene learning to sew! She made a beautiful skirt under Nee Nee's supervision

Hank petting Blackie and Minky. Then a picture of him riding the cow statue at the Memphis Zoo. (Sorry I can't get that picture turned. I will try again tomorrow).

The kids with Grandaddy, and with Uncle John

The stylish shoes Nee Nee bought Corrina! Corrina gets a lot of attention when she wears these. Thank goodness they zip up the back instead of having to loosen the laces each time!
